Director's Note

Dear PMT Family and Friends,

We are gathered here to honor and enjoy a timeless devotion. Today’s celebration really is truly as simple as black and white. This show’s performers are quite literally like none other…nun other…Ha!

Welcome to Pittsburgh Musical Theater’s Rockin’ West End production of Nunsense The Mega Musical! When Dan Goggin’s first production of Nunsense opened in 1985 who could have predicted the worldwide phenomenon that it would become? Evolving for almost 34 years, encompassing multiple sequels, a television pilot, and over $500 million in combined international box office, Nunsense is an unquestionable force to be reckoned with. After an almost two decade hiatus, the Sisters of Hoboken are finally making their way back to the Pittsburgh Musical Theater stage! I cannot think of a more appropriate space for this production than here in the Gargaro Theater, formerly St. James Catholic School.

I attended a Catholic Elementary School then continued to Catholic High School. Aside from my parents, The Sisters of St. Joseph were the primary authority figures through my formative years. They were the ones who identified my love of theater in the second grade casting me in my first lead role as the Lark in “The Lark and the Robin”, a story of St. Francis of Assisi told through the eyes of the animals. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine having the opportunity to thank them through my craft.

This performance is only possible thanks to the incredibly diverse skills, talents, and support of the Pittsburgh Musical Theater family. I’m eternally grateful that there is an entire section of this program dedicated to Special Thanks because I wouldn’t even know where to begin to start! Through the efforts of Administration, Production Team, and our incredible actors, you’ll be transported to a world not altogether unlike ours, just seen through the lenses of strong women with extreme devotion…tempered by a healthy dose of humanity!

Enjoy the show! We won’t be surprised when we see you back again, after all, they say that Nunsense IS habit forming!
