Education Programs


These advanced education programs offer unique opportunities for students to remain full time high school students while still receiving superior, comprehensive musical theater training from a dedicated and caring professional faculty. These are intensive study programs in musical theater for students who plan to attend college with a major in the performing arts.


FALL SEMESTER: September 11th - December 18th, 2021


PRE-COLLEGE PROGRAM (PCP)

(ages 15 - 18)


Students of the Pre-College Program will attend their high school for half of the day, and PMT for the other half of the day to train with our resident artists.

For over a decade, Pittsburgh Musical Theater's Pre-College Program has served as a pathway to Broadway, feature films, and University training. Graduates have matriculated at Yale, CMU, NYU, Boston Conservatory, Florida State University, Penn State, Point Park and many others. The Pre-College program offers advanced classes for students with "Broadway Dreams."

Requirements
  • Sophomore, junior or senior in high school
  • 2.5 GPA at your high school
  • Demonstration of talent through audition
  • Submission of application materials
  • An audition is required for entrance into the Pre-College Program, please contact us for details and requirements.

TEEN PERFORMANCE INTENSIVE PROGRAM (TPIP)

(ages 13 - 18)


The Teen performance intensive program is a 2 or 3 day a week advanced education program offering unique opportunities for students to remain full time high school students while still receiving superior, comprehensive musical theater training from a dedicated and caring professional faculty. These are intensive study programs in musical theater for students who plan to attend college with a major in the performing arts.

Tales and Treats Theater Company

The students of the Teen Performance Intensive Program run their own children's theater company. In the fall semester they produce 30 minute shows for community children in our own Gargaro Theater. The students serve as the writers, directors, choreographers, designers and technical staff as well as perform on stage in these shows!

MONDAY CLASSES
Musical Theater Repertoire

Students in Music Theater Rep will begin to learn the skills required for musical theater style singing, including; reading music, part singing, and how to warm-up their voice properly. They will also begin to build a repertoire of songs that they feel comfortable singing for auditions and have the opportunity to practice singing by themselves in the front of class.

Jazz

Students in Jazz study proper dance technique, fundamental steps, strength and flexibility. Dance classes are leveled by age and skill level - placement will be according to our principal of sufficiently challenging, while never overwhelming your student.

Ballet

Students in Ballet will build the foundation of solid ballet technique that is vital to becoming a well rounded dancer and musical theater performer.

Tap or Pointe

Students in Tap or Pointe will learn the proper execution of basic steps, sounds and technique. They will then be challenged to put them together in combinations as they advance in their study.


THURSDAY CLASSES

Students in Acting will use improvisation, theater games and exercises to stretch their imaginations, learn character building and other basic acting skills. Older students will be able to apply these skills to simple text, monologues, and scenes.

Jazz

Students in Jazz study proper dance technique, fundamental steps, strength and flexibility. Dance classes are leveled by age and skill level - placement will be according to our principal of sufficiently challenging, while never overwhelming your student.

Ballet
