WHAT:

Seeking FULL TIME teaching artists for PMT's Propel Creative Arts Program on Musical Theatre: Classroom Superstars.

MISSION STATEMENT:
  • Propel Schools, based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a not-for-profit federation of charter schools, dedicated to the mission of catalyzing the transformation of public education so that all children have access to high performing public schools.
ABOUT CLASSROOM SUPERSTARS:
  • Our program is called Classroom Superstars.
  • Right now, we are looking for full time teachers for our 2024 / 2025 school year (mid August to mid June).
  • Hours are typically 9:00AM - 3:30PM M-F.
  • Teaching artists will be team teaching with another instructor.

REQUIRED CLEARANCES:
  • Criminal History (Act 34)

  • Child Abuse (Act 151)
  • Act 168 Form and Affidavit
  • Act 24 (PA Form 6004)
  • TB clearance

NATURE OF WORK:

Conservatory Resident Artists report directly to the Conservatory Director and are responsible for educating PMT Conservatory students in the musical theater discipline for which they are qualified and hired to teach. Resident Artists may have the opportunity to participate in curriculum development with the Conservatory Director based on their personal skill set and interests.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Instruct PMT Conservatory students in the assigned musical theater discipline
  • Monitor student progress and advise Conservatory Director on student placement, changes in student attitudes or behavior, and concerns for student wellbeing
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment that recognizes the individual talents of each student and encourages growth
  • Embrace and advance an educational approach that leaves students sufficiently challenged but never overwhelmed
  • Be familiar with and embrace the objectives of the PMT Strategic Plan. Full and abridged versions of the strategic plan can be reviewed here.
  • As needed or desired, work with PMT Conservatory staff to increase and expand curriculum through the artists individual knowledge, expertise, and passions
  • Maintain the highest standard for professional interaction with students, families, resident artists, and PMT administrators at all times

Qualified candidates will be passionate artists who are skilled in their craft and thrive on the ability to provide excellent arts education experiences for students from all backgrounds and a variety of skill levels. PMT recognizes the great value in arts education for all students, and aims to equip students with transferable life skills, especially: empathy, generosity, collaboration, determination, and confidence. PMT strives to create a culture of mentorship and synergistic learning within PMT Conservatory through integrated opportunities for students and artists. Successful resident artists will seek out and enjoy mentor/mentee relationships with students and value the shared learning that occurs within these relationships.

Founded in 1990 and located in the West End since 2000, Pittsburgh Musical Theater’s student body is made up of approximately 300 students from 7+ regional counties and 25+ neighborhoods within the City of Pittsburgh. REQUIREMENTS OF WORK:
  • Applicants will be considered based on a combination of prior experience, expertise, and education. PMT welcomes candidates with a diverse array of educational and professional experiences and will consider a variety of experiences as relevant to the work
  • This position will require evening and/or weekend work

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • This position is on-site only
  • The ability to climb stairs is required
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Resident Artists compensation is $30/hour.
