Student Matinées

A lifelong love of theater often starts with a school bus ride to see a student matinée performance at Pittsburgh Musical Theater. These matinées are the same professional productions staged for evening and weekend audiences. Student matinée performances begin at 10 a.m., and tickets are $12 each. For every 25 paid student tickets, one complimentary ticket is provided.

October 26th, 2017

Byham Theater - Recommended for elementary, junior high, and high school aged students.

The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.

This is a special presentation by the students of the Richard E. Rauh Conservatory, backed by the talented CAPA Orchestra and supported by the professional artists of Pittsburgh Musical Theater.

New Hazlett Theater - Recommended for elementary, junior high, and high school aged students.

On Christmas Eve, Scrooge sits in his house with not a kind word for anyone; he just wants to be left alone until the 'humbug' of Christmas is over. But four ghostly visitors-his former business partner, followed by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and Christmas Yet to Come - show him theerror of his ways, and by the time Christmas Day dawns, Scrooge is a changed person. The entire family will enjoy this timeless classic adapted for the stage by Kenneth Vance and Jane Gargaro peppered with your favorite Christmas carols.

February 1st, 2018

Gargaro Theater - Recommended for junior high and high school aged students.

We Will Rock You follows two revolutionaries as they try to save Rock in a post apocalyptic world. Earth's name has been changed to Planet Mall. Everyone wears the same clothes, thinks the same thoughts and goes about in a brain-dead haze. Musical instruments and composers are forbidden, and rock music is all but unknown. However, a small group of "Bohemians" struggle to restore the free exchange of thought, fashion, and (most of all) live music.

Byham Theater - Recommended for elementary, junior high, and high school aged students.

Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney's The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner, Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including "Under the Sea," "Kiss the Girl" and "Part of Your World."

April 4th, 2018

New Hazlett Theater - Recommended for junior high and high school aged students.

The musical play TITANIC examines the causes, the conditions and the characters involved in this ever-fascinating drama. This is the factual story of that ship—of her officers, crew and passengers, to be sure—but she will not, as has happened so many times before, serve as merely the background against which fictional, melodramatic narratives are recounted. The central character of our TITANIC is the Titanic herself.

Titanic is presented by the PMT Teens.
