Teen programs offer a wide variety of class options in musical theater disciplines that prepare them to be superstars on stage and off! By engaging in activities that teach the importance of face-to-face interaction and spending time away from screens, students are empowered to become confident leaders that communicate effectively and gain additional transferable life skills to carry with them far beyond their teen years.
PMT strives to sufficiently challenge, while never overwhelming your student. This package includes:
Students in acting will use improvisation, theater games and exercises to stretch their imaginations, learn character building and other basic acting skills. Older students will be able to apply these skills to simple text, monologues, and scenes.
Students in jazz study proper dance technique, fundamental steps, strength and flexibility. Dance classes are leveled by age and skill level - placement will be according to our principal of sufficiently challenging, while never overwhelming your student.
Students in musical theater rep will begin to learn the skills required for musical theater style singing, including; reading music, part singing, and how to warm-up their voice properly. They will also begin to build a repertoire of songs that they feel comfortable singing for auditions and have the opportunity to practice singing by themselves in the front of class.
MTW is a performance-based musical theater preparation class, in which students will learn dance, acting, and group vocal skills. Divided into acting exercises, singing techniques, choreography, and more, students will combine all these skills, and put them into action to perform musical selections in the form of a 10-15 minute medley at the end of the semester as part of PMT's MTW Showcase, which is performed at either the Byham Theater in downtown's Cultural District, or PMT's very own Gargaro Theater in the West End.
Students in tap will learn the proper execution of basic tap steps, sounds and technique. They will then be challenged to put them together in combinations as they advance in their study.
Students in ballet will build the foundation of solid ballet technique that is vital to becoming a well rounded dancer and musical theater performer.

This program provides students with a unique look behind the curtain by offering in-classroom and hands-on experiences in the full range of technical theater disciplines. Students will develop the skills needed to analyze text, create conceptual drawings and presentations, communicate their thoughts and ideas in a professional manner, and improve their teamwork skills.
Topics of study include basics of design in set, lighting, costumes, sound, and properties. The program also includes courses designed to prepare students to communicate and collaborate with a team of designers. Hands-on experiences will range from technical theater communication and safety to courses where students will learn carpentry, painting, sound editing software, sound console operation, the science of light and lighting, and programming industry standard lighting software.
All of these courses will culminate in the student's ability to work alongside PMT's professional designers on student and professional company productions.

Mondays, 4:00PM - 6:00PM
Students will learn how to apply Musical Theater skills into the flow of performance. They will learn how to act lyrics, transition from a scene or monologue into a musical number, and study the art of the duet. Students will also learn how to stage numbers and scenes, as well as how to research a musical and study a character.
There is no prerequisite for this class.
Thursdays, 4:00PM - 6:00PM
Students in Acting for the Camera / Self-Tape Techniques will learn the intricate and subtle acting techniques practiced in the world of cinema, from television actor Barrett Carnahan (Disney’s K.C. Undercover, Modern Family, Grey’s Anatomy, Netflix’s Cobra Kai, and many more). They will also learn to understand the basic skills necessary to prepare for, film, and edit their own audition self-tapes. These techniques are extremely important in today's entertainment industry.

Thursdays, 6:00PM - 7:00PM
Students in Hip Hop will learn an energetic, upbeat, dynamic, and technical style of physical expression. Students will be encouraged to dance creatively and become more comfortable utilizing musicality, and improvisation. Techniques include popping, locking, waving, gliding, and freestyle circles.
There is no prerequisite for this class.
Thursdays, 7:00PM - 8:00PM
Students in Modern Dance will learn to focus on individual expression, balance, direction, and momentum. Dancers in this class will learn to move freely through space and discover their own physical capabilities to showcase the emotional spirit of the music through their bodies and movements.
