Safety & Prohibited Items

Pittsburgh Musical Theater takes your safety very seriously, and has implemented additional measures to better assure the comfort and protection of all persons who visit or frequent the Gargaro Theater and the West End Canopy. The most critical issue to Pittsburgh Musical Theater is always the safety of our stakeholders; staff, volunteers, visitors, and guests. Our policies are meant to preserve that commitment to security.

Evil Dead 2024 Entry Parameters West End Canopy Safety
  • Oversized bags that exceed 12" x 12" x 6"
  • Weapons of any kind or facsimiles of weapons, including firearms, pellet guns, stun guns, martial arts weapons, pepper spray, pocket/utility knives or cutting instruments
  • Illegal drugs or substances
  • Flammable liquids
  • Fireworks, pyrotechnics, flares or incendiary devices
  • Glass, metal, or plastic containers of any kind including cans, bottles and flasks. This includes refillable, reusable water bottles.
  • Outside food or beverages including alcohol
  • Interchangeable/detachable camera lens (No professional photography-unless authorized)
  • Audio/visual recording devices
  • 2 way radios
  • Laser pointers
  • Laptops/tablets

Prohibited items must be returned to your vehicle or discarded. Anything placed on our property outside the entry gate will be discarded or removed by authorities.

PMT reserves the right to deny drugs or medications that are unlabeled, unidentifiable, in large quantities or at discretion of security or management.

Enhanced Cleaning and Disinfecting
  • High touch areas: Frequent cleaning of all door knobs, handrails, ballet bars, light switches, etc.
  • Exemplary cleaners: All cleaning products used meet EPA & CDC guidelines for disinfecting against common bacteria and viral illnesses including COVID-19

Building Ventilation & Air Quality
  • Fresh-air movement: All rooms are efficiently ventilated and cleaned prior to daily use
  • Elimination of pollutants: New filters in our HVAC systems
  • Optimal air circulation: All studios have added ventilation to increase airflow
  • Germ killing lights: UVC germicidal irradiation technology in use throughout our studios

Staff Training
  • Enhanced training: All PMT Staff and Resident Artists have attended PMT's Health and Safety Procedures and Plans training
  • Heightened awareness: All PMT Staff and Resident Artists trained to recognize signs and symptoms of illness, as well as trained on proper cleaning techniques and standards
  • Backup staffing: PMT has additional qualified artists to fill in for our regular class staff as needed throughout the semester

Purchasing Tickets
  • PMT utilizes multiple venues in Pittsburgh.
  • All tickets are available for purchase online at www.pittsburghmusicals.com
  • If you prefer to call for tickets and your show is at the West End Canopy call 412-539-0900 ext. 232
  • If the show is at the Byham Theater please call 412-456-6666.

➤ Do I need a reservation?

  • All seats are assigned and must be reserved.
  • All tickets must be paid for at time of purchase.

➤ Are walk up tickets available?

  • When possible walk-up sales are available, however there is no guarantee that tickets will be available to purchase at the door. Your best option is to purchase online or call ahead during box office hours.

➤ Can my tickets be refunded?*

  • All ticket sales are final.
  • If you cannot attend the performance, after a reservation is made, you must cancel your reservation at least 24 hours prior to the performance you will receive a credit for a future PMT performance of your choice.
  • If you do not cancel 24 hours prior you will not be able to receive a credit.
  • In the event of a cancellation for any reason we will make every effort to exchange your tickets for a future performance of the show. You also have the option of holding your ticket value as a credit with us for one calendar year from the original performance date, or you could also make your ticket price a charitable gift to the theater.

Admissions, Directions, Parking

➤ What time is the show / when should I arrive?

  • We recommend arriving 30 - 45 mins prior to the performance start time. This will allow you time to park, and still have some time to chat with friends, enjoy our patron amenities, and settle in before the show begins.

➤ Where can I park?

➤ Can I leave the show or venue and come back in?

  • For shows at the West End Canopy, we have a "no re-entry" policy, which means once you enter, you cannot leave and re-enter the venue.

➤ What if I arrive late?

  • The rules for late seating are at the discretion of theater management, and vary from show to show. In some cases you will have to wait a few moments for an appropriate time in the show to seat you. In other instances you may need to be seated in an alternative location.

➤ If there is inclement weather will the show be cancelled?

  • With one of our venues being the West End Canopy, it is an outdoor venue, and there may be the rare occurrence to cancel or postpone a production. If one of these rare instances did occur PMT would make any cancellation decision at least 2 hours prior to performance start time. We will notify patrons via our website and social media pages. The box office will work with ticket holders to reschedule their reservations when possible. Otherwise a credit for a future PMT production will be given to the ticket purchaser.

➤ What time will the doors open for a production?

  • Lobby doors will open one hour prior to curtain time.
  • Doors to the theater itself will open a half hour prior to curtain time.

Food & Drink Policy
  • No outside food or beverages are permitted in any of our venues.
  • Drinks and snacks are available to purchase prior to the show and during intermission.



We have enhanced health and safety measures at Pittsburgh Musical Theater - for our students, resident artists, patrons and staff. You must follow all instructions regarding drop-off and pick-up procedures as well as posted instructions while at the PMT Studios for classes and performances. An inherent risk of exposure to infectious diseases exists in any public place where people are present. By attending classes and performances you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to potentially dangerous infectious diseases. Do your part for the safety and health of yourself and others!
